ADNeT Director Professor Chris Rowe was interviewed by both Channel 7 News and RACGP’s digital news publication newsGP about new blood based biomarker tests for pTau217, which can accurately predict the likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
ADNeT and the Australian Imaging, Biomarkers and Lifestyle Study of Ageing, working together with CSIRO, have several research publications on the pTau217 blood test confirming over 90% accuracy, compared to amyloid and tau PET scanning.
There may be a while to go before the blood tests are implemented universally in clinical practice in Australia, but the work, led by Prof Rowe, is well underway.
